How do I become a volunteer?
Simply fill out the volunteer registration form
online or mail it in with your payment. The majority
of committees require the purchase of a uniform.
However, there are a few that do not, for example:
parking, ecology, merchandise tent. Committees that
do not require the uniform are so noted on the
volunteer job descriptions page. Priority is given
to those volunteers who are returning, and then on
the basis of when the application is received.
Register early for the best chance of getting the
committee you prefer. You will receive confirmation
when your application is received. You will be
notified of your committee assignment and
chairperson after March 12, 2009.
What are the tournament
dates?
The tournament will take place June 8 – 14, 2009, at
Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, Maryland. The majority
of volunteer hours will occur during these dates.
However, some committees operate a few days prior to
and after tournament week.
What are the volunteer
requirements?
Volunteers should meet the following conditions:
Volunteers are required to
purchase a volunteer uniform (most committees)
that must be worn during scheduled working
hours. Volunteers are to provide their own khaki
slacks/shorts.
Volunteers are requested to commit to three
shifts during tournament week, including at
least one weekday shift. The exact schedule
varies by committee, but typically breaks down
to approximately 5-6 hours a day. Some
committees require orientation and training
sessions; these hours do not count towards the
time commitment.
Committees may have other requirements, such as
submitting to a DMV records check so that
permission may be given to operate a motor
vehicle during tournament week.
Committee chairpersons
can answer any questions regarding scheduling or
any additional requirements for their specific
committee when they contact you.
Can I still volunteer if
I cannot commit to the minimum shift requirement?
Priority is given to applicants who can commit a
minimum of three shifts, including at least one
weekday shift. Most committees are looking for
volunteers with flexible availability when
developing their tournament week schedules. You may
still volunteer, but you will be assigned to only
those committees needing help during your indicated
time availability.
What is included in the
volunteer uniform package?
The 2009 volunteer package consists of a shirt,
headwear of your choice, and shipping. Cutter & Buck
is our uniform provider and all items include the
tournament logo. The cost ranges from $46.75 to
$55.75, depending on your headwear selection.
Volunteers must provide their own khaki
slacks/shorts, which are required to complete the
volunteer uniform. The package also includes a
weeklong credential for admission to the tournament,
a volunteer parking pass, 4 good-any-day tickets to
give away to family and/or friends, food chits for
the days you work, and a copy of the volunteer
guidelines. All volunteers are also invited to the
Volunteer Appreciation Party held at the conclusion
of the tournament.
Where do I go to pick up
my uniform package?
All uniforms are shipped and delivered to your
doorstep via UPS. You should receive your uniform
package during the week of May 11, 2009. What if my
uniform shirt does not fit or I want to purchase
additional items? You may exchange items in the
uniform trailer (located in the gravel parking lot
at Bulle Rock) on Saturday, June 6, from 9:00 a.m. –
3:00 p.m.; or any day tournament week between 9:00
a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
After submitting a
volunteer placation, how do I know if I have been
selected to be a volunteer for the event?
All applicants are accepted if they fulfill the
requirements. If none of the committees you’ve
selected as your top three choices are available,
you will be notified of what is available. If you
are not interested in the committee(s) available,
simply decline the offer and ask that you be added
to a waitlist on the committee you prefer. If you
would rather be removed from the ’09 volunteer
registration, payment will be refunded in full.
Is a position on my
committee of choice guaranteed?
First choice selections are not guaranteed, but the
sooner you submit your volunteer application, the
better chance you have to be assigned to that
committee. It is rare that someone is not assigned
to one of the three committees of their choice. If
we are unable to assign you to one of your three
choices, you will be notified of what is available
and have the option of accepting the position, being
placed on a waiting list or requesting removal from
the tournament database.
My friend and I are
coming together – can we be scheduled to work during
the same time?
You may indicate on the application that you would
like to be scheduled with a friend. We will make
every effort to accommodate your request. However,
you must be members of the same committee. It is
difficult to coordinate schedules for two or more
people if they are on different committees, as shift
times vary among separate committees.
Why should I become a
volunteer?
The McDonald’s LPGA Championship Presented by
Coca-Cola depends on volunteers to make it a
success; we rely on over 1300 volunteers during
tournament time. It would not be possible to run the
tournament without the thousands of hours provided
by our volunteers. Your volunteer involvement allows
the tournament to benefit Ronald McDonald House
Charities and other children’s charities. Over the
past twenty-eight years, the tournament has raised
over $46 million for kids! Being a part of this
wonderful cause gives you a chance to “give back” to
those in need. As a volunteer, you receive a
credential for admission the entire tournament week,
allowing you to enjoy tournament access even when
you are not working. You will also receive 4
good-any-day tickets to give away to family and
friends. Food chits are given to volunteers on the
days they are assigned to work. All volunteers are
invited to the Volunteer Appreciation Party held at
the conclusion of play. Purchasing the volunteer
uniform package enables you to receive exclusive
tournament logo merchandise at a discounted price.
You also gain the benefit of working behind the
scenes of a successful LPGA Tour event, and may even
have the opportunity to meet an LPGA Tour Player,
These are just a few of the many benefits enjoyed by
volunteers of the tournament. Once involved, you are
sure to discover more worthwhile and exciting
reasons to support your decisions.
What happens if I
register and then have a conflict that prohibits me
from volunteering during the event?
Please contact the tournament office by phone at
302.428.1681, or email sh@mcdslpga.org.
